Trying to get to grips with social media…

Spurred on by the lovely and tech-savvy Josephine Myles, I’m trying out Windows Live Writer.  It’s supposed to be posting this to LJ and to Wordpress, but I’m not holding my breath!

So please ignore this post, unless by any chance you happen to be possessed of a link to an idiot’s guide to all this sort of stuff, in which case I shall be biting your hand off shortly…

Tell you one of the many things I like about Windows Live Writer - when you hyperlink text, there is an option to "always link to this text", so now when I type your and a few other writer friend's names it automatically links to your website. Nifty, eh?

I didn't know about that "always" option -- that's neat! I've been using Live Writer intermittently, depending on the complexity of what I'm trying to accomplish. It's lovely for putting things in tables so they line up nicely, although if your pictures aren't the right size to begin with, it will be messy and you have to go into the html anyway. I like the way you pull up the page you want to link to and it fills in the blank.

But 3/4 of the time I'm still writing code.

I guess like everything, there are certain things it'll do better than others. I'll just have to play around with it and see what works. :)

Oh, it's all fairly straightforward - no harder than using Weebly, really :)

There is an option somewhere in Live Writer to automatically set the size your pictures open up as - I've got mine set to 200px high, although it only works when I've got it switched to LJ - I guess I need to remember how I did it and go and switch the Wordpress one too!

Ooh, this is interesting because Jo piqued my interest as well. I'll play around with it too, as soon as I get time... LOL.

I'm finding it reasonably user-friendly - I'll definitely carry on with the trial. :)
