Exercise - apparently it's NOT good for me, after all

Ow. Just hobbled back from gym, where I managed to injure myself on the elliptical, something I'd always thought was impossible... I mean, those things are designed to be about the lowest impact exercise you can do, so what could possibly go wrong?

Apparently, that thing in my calf muscle that went "pop" could go wrong, and did.

*glares at leg, and reminds it sternly to pull itself together; it's got to go on holiday in 11 days*

Still, at least now the husband can hardly complain if I spend all day sitting at the computer! ;)

Thank you! Fortunately it appears to be a fairly minor one, as these things go - I can at least still walk on it, in an amusing sort of hop-along way!

This fully confirms what I thought about exercise all along. All it does is make you feel bad and make you want to eat more, and that's bad enough without extra injuries!

Well, the idea is to do a sequel to my 2009 Christmas story, Pleasures with Rough Strife, which was set in 1922, and 1926 looked quite an interesting year, what with the General Strike and all. Danny and Philip are from opposite ends of the class spectrum, so I thought a bit of social unrest would make a good backdrop.

I'm a bit stuck for a poet, however - the first one, obviously, was laced with Andrew Marvell, but I thought I might go for someone more modern for this one, perhaps someone with a bit of social commentary. Am considering Siegfried Sassoon and TS Eliot, but I don't think SS is going to cut it because I don't want any WW1 references. The first story was all about looking back to the past - I want this one to be looking to the future.

But I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer someone a bit more accessible.

Wow, I didn't realise you'd written a historical. That sounds like an awful lot of research you're having to do. I'm sorry I can't help you with the poets, although I would have thought modernist poetry would be about as forward looking as you can get. Does it have to be poetry? You couldn't use someone like EM Forster, could you?
