I actually watched two whole programs on TV tonight! Many of you may be thinking "So what?" but this is a rare occurrence in the Merrow household. Usually I'm either tapping away at the computer or curled up on the sofa editing something while the rest of the family are exclaiming over X Factor.

Tonight, however, I was spoiled: not only was Downton Abbey on, we had the first episode of season 7 of House. Yes, I know that's old hat to you US types! I was a bit worried about House - the episode synopsis made it sound slightly less interesting than watching paint dry - but I actually quite enjoyed it.

Downton Abbey was lovely, of course. Professor McGonagall was on fine form: "What is a weekend?" and Laura's dad from Lark's Rise twinkled amiably and continued his slow-burning romance with the head housemaid. Captain Brown from Cranford did crushed dignity marvellously well. Most touching scene: middle-class heir Matthew Crawley (who has, by the by, rather arresting eyes) finally letting his valet do his job. No, really! :)

It was all very well timed, for me - I've just finished a novella (a contemporary m/m romance provisionally titled Broken Eggs) and sent it off to beta, which always leaves me feeling a bit flat.
